The family is expecting a second baby, with the due date about a month away. They wanted the nursery prepared calmly and in advance: free up space and design a system that survives the newborn while staying clear for the older child.
We divided the room into zones on Montessori principles. A rest and sleep zone — the house-bed against the wall (the cradle for the baby will be brought up from the garage closer to the birth, so the room isn't cluttered too early). A reading zone — a mini-library with books facing forward that the child can reach. An art zone — a table with pencils, modelling clay and Play-Doh openly accessible. Toys went into labelled colored Trofast bins, the floor was cleared and plenty of room left for play.
A room ready to welcome the second baby and arranged around the older child. The child takes and returns things on their own, each zone has its purpose, and the parents avoid a last-minute rush before the hospital.
